Remembrance Sunday on
Great Gable
13th November 2005
| Each year on remembrance Sunday, Fell and Rock host a
gathering on the summit of Great Gable and then onto Scafell Pike to pay
tribute to those Fell and Rock members who lost their lives in the great
wars. The teams that undertake rescues on the mountain, normally
attend to pay their own respects along with the other 600 to 800 fell
walkers that make their way to the summit. An early start is
required (9.00 a.m.) to get to the summit for 10.45 a.m.
The gathering lasts about 5 minutes in all before they all depart - a great moment of remembrance on the summit of a very beautiful mountain. Also see photographs of rescue undertaken the previous evening here
