Crag Training on Great Crag

Sunday 25th April 2004

Team gathers up on the fell near the crag
As usual we need to take most of the crag gear so light sacks are out today
Team Leader, Julian Carradice shares a joke with Fiona Henderson
Five point belay training is the bread and butter technical work for the team - practice makes perfect.  You have to be able to set these up quickly and safely in gale force winds, driving rain and in the dark.  10/10 for John Bamforth and Fiona

Another 5 point being tested and checked

Training with the Bell stretcher

First full day practice for probationer Jake Manson

Safety line training with various technical ascenders and stops

Stephen Walter, Team member and outdoor instructor keeps a watchful eye as we are put through our paces

Paul Fligg, preparing to abseil but ensuring that the changeover from safety line to abseil line is carried out smoothly and safely.  Red line is the safety line / belay in case anything goes wrong with the abseil [potentially the most dangerous activity whilst descending a crag]

Cable way lowering of a casualty using the Bell stretcher.  It is always good for team members to be an exercise casualty now and again.

View back up the cableway from the bell stretcher.  Paul Cook on standby in case the stretcher becomes snagged.

Ready to be received on the ground - a most comfortable way to get down the crag.
