Gordon Starkie, Wasdale MRT Communications
Officer and Chairman of the LDSAMRA Communications Sub-Committee with the
new High Band base set installed at Mill Forge, Wasdale MRT's headquarters
in Gosforth.
The lakes teams are progressively moving from Low Band 86.3125 to the
high band sets. All 12 of the Lake District teams will have moved to High
Band by 30 September 2004.

What the new high band handset looks like, slightly smaller
and lighter than the old low band. Each of the Lake District teams
has its own frequency. Note that Wasdale and Kirkby Stephen share a
channel but would rarely have a conflict due to the distance between
operating areas.
Note that we can scan between our own frequency
and the helicopter channel. Other important frequencies include
Coastguard and Channel 53
Later on that day/the following morning at 0100
hrs the new radios are handed out for a limited callout search.
Lights on Scafell needed to be investigated and the team were called out
by the police. Fortunately the incident didn't develop into anything
that needed dealing with.
